I am lucky, in so many ways. I’m building my dream company with some of my best friends (and the most talented coaches I know!), every day. Does that mean that I wake up everyday and complete my to-do list before 7 am? Not quite.
The truth is, these last few years have been some of the most difficult of my life. While I’ve shared some of my story, this is the first time I’m getting real about my health and the struggles it presented for me.
The big reveal? I started building my coaching business from my bed. In pajamas. After 8 years of misdiagnosis, in 2014 I was finally being treated for Lyme disease. I had a very real energy threshold, and the distance from my bed to the other side of my 400 square foot apartment felt like an impossible stretch. It would have been easier to stay under the covers, wait for my body to heal and avoid my dreams. Obviously, I didn’t do that.
All of us go through seasons that try us. Whatever it is that’s keeping you bed-ridden or just emotionally and energetically drained, know that your sisterhood is here to support you. And in service of making it easier for you, I’m excited to share with you exactly how I managed to launch my dream business and take care of myself, at the same.
1) Embrace the (clear) vision.
If you’re truly ready to change your life, and refuse to allow your current circumstances to hold you back, you need to be super clear on what you want. Dig into your dream. What does it mean? What could you build? What is your most ideal outcome? The more clear you get, the easier this entire process will be.
2) Recognize the difficulties…and do it anyway.
I know that circumstances can feel stifling. Resolve to get started, regardless. Be frustrated if you want: throw pillows, scream, take a nap…and then get started.
3) Understand your energy + break down the big dream.
Step number three is all about getting in touch with yourself. Be honest: how much energy do you have to devote to this project today? There is no shame or guilt here, goddess, only pure truth.
I like to think of my energy in terms of pennies. Say you start the day with 100 pennies. Every action you take will have a price, and your pile of pennies will start to shrink. It’s time to budget! You know it’s going to take at least 30 pennies to get out of the shower, get some breakfast, and sit down at the table. What will you do with the last 70 pennies? What’s possible, and what needs to be worked into another day’s budget?
Don’t try to tackle the big dream all at once, with your 70 pennies. Save up, and tackle the project one small piece at a time. Breaking the big dream down into more manageable pieces will stop the overwhelm in its tracks. Plus, the end result will be just as beautiful. That brings us to the final step: knowing your priorities.
4) Prioritize and release.
Although at times it’s easy to feel as if EVERYTHING in life is urgent, that’s rarely the case. Where do you have some flexibility to give yourself more time? What is your personal priority, and in what way can you make the most progress in that arena? Again, there are no right or wrong answers. Don’t look outward and study every other person’s priorities: decide for yourself.
When you have spent every penny for the day on your priorities, you’re done. Release that which didn’t get completed for the day, and rest. If you’ve reached your energetic capacity, you aren’t going to be much good to anyone else!
You’ve got this, goddess. Small steps will get you there.
Is your journey similar to mine? Is there something you have had to overcome or process through in terms of your health, well-being or life circumstances? I’d love to walk through that with you. I have spaces for two one on one clients starting this July. To set up a free consultation, please email me at katie@innerglowcircle.com, with the subject line “Free Consultation.”
Big love,
Katie
