I grew up with best friends who, to this day, are no bigger than a size 2. Don’t get me wrong: My size 6 is by no means big.
But try telling that to an adolescent with tiny best friends who’s also subject to the media’s constant messaging that women have to be skinny in order to be beautiful. This is not exactly a recipe for confidence in a young woman.
I handled this relatively well, until my 26th year.
Then, I dropped from a size 6 to a size 00.
I was going through a quarter-life crisis:
- I had worked my butt off for my career, but I hated it.
- I was in the “perfect” relationship, but I was increasingly feeling stifled.
- I was feeling less + less clear about where my life was going.
My life felt out of my hands, and the only thing I felt like I could control was my body. So, I did endless workouts, I ate next to nothing and found a way to exist on about 300 calories a day.
I shared my full experience in Time Magazine. You can read the full story here.
Some of you may read it and say, “Well, that doesn’t apply to me – I never had an eating disorder.” But here’s the thing: self-sabotage and disconnection with our deeper selves can show up in so many different ways.
For me, it was anorexia. For you it could be emotional eating, pervasive negative self-talk or so many other things.
I know from personal experience the joy that being truly healthy and living in alignment brings and I so want that for you, too! So, I’m excited to share that I’m developing a program I’ll be launching with Inner Glow Circle later this year. I’ll keep you updated on all the details as they unfold!
If you’re excited about the idea of a course that explores the life decisions that trigger poor eating habits, let me know in our Inner Glow Circle Facebook group.
